Propensity for alcoholism can be detected at an early age

A team of psychologists from the Commonwealth University in Virginia during the study found that addiction to alcoholism can manifest itself at an early age.

Specialists monitored the development of 1000 children from birth to 15 years old. As a result, it was concluded that some of the traits people who are associated with an addiction to alcoholism may appear as early as the age of five. Psychologists believe that most of all in the future, those children who have low communication skills and emotional instability, or, on the contrary, high communication skills and extraversion, are more likely to become alcoholics.

Such personality traits, combined with adolescence, when a person is already inclined to take risks, often bring a negative indicator. At the same time, they noted that a teenager who is interested in low-alcohol drinks does not necessarily grow up an alcoholic in the future.

At the same time, the statistics of adolescent alcoholism in the Russian Federation is disappointing. According to statistics published by scientists of the Institute of Sociology of the Russian Academy of Sciences in 2011, over the past 20 years, the problem of drunkenness in the Russian Federation has sharply worsened and now concerns primarily adolescents.

According to experts, there are about 5 million alcoholics in the country – this is 3.4% of the total population. Since 1885, the number of alcoholic beverages consumed per capita has increased by 25%, and the number of offenses committed by drunk people has almost doubled.
